Port summary
Trapani sits on a narrow sickle-shaped peninsula at the western tip of Sicily, and the port runs along its southern side. Most cruise calls berth at Molo Sanità, the pier rebuilt in 2025–26 for cruise ships, right next to the cruise and passenger terminal opened in 2021 on Via Ammiraglio Staiti. From the gangway you cross the road and you are in the old town: Via Torrearsa leads up to Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Garibaldi in five minutes. Larger ships are sometimes sent to Molo Ronciglio on the far side of the harbour; from there a shuttle bus usually runs to the terminal, and walking takes about 35 minutes. Some big ships anchor and tender. The old town is flat and compact. In two or three hours you can walk the baroque Corso to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, see the Misteri statues in the Chiesa del Purgatorio, stop for a granita at Colicchia, and follow the Mura di Tramontana sea wall out to the Torre di Ligny at the tip of the peninsula. Lunch is busiate al pesto trapanese or fish couscous. The headline trip is Erice, the medieval hill town 750 m above the port. Take a taxi or city bus to the cable-car station on Via Capua (about 15 minutes), then ride the funivia up in 10 minutes. The cable car closes in strong wind, so have a taxi plan (about 30 minutes by road). Allow at least 3–4 hours in total. South of town, the salt pans of the Via del Sale run towards Marsala: the Museo del Sale at Nubia is 15 minutes away, and the windmill at Saline Ettore e Infersa is the jetty for the boat to the Phoenician island of Mozia. Liberty Lines hydrofoils leave from the port for Favignana (30–45 minutes), good for a half-day of cycling and swimming. Segesta's Greek temple, Marsala's wine cellars and the beach at San Vito Lo Capo are each 40–60 minutes by road and work best by taxi or tour.
