Port summary

Cruise ships berth at the Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) container quays in the middle of the bay. You cannot walk out of the port: a free shuttle bus runs between the ship and VTP (Valparaíso Terminal de Pasajeros), the cruise terminal at Muelle Barón on the eastern side of the city. VTP is also where turnaround passengers check in. From VTP the historic heart around Plaza Sotomayor and Muelle Prat is about 2 km west. A taxi or Uber takes 10 minutes; the Metro Valparaíso train from Barón station, right next to the terminal, takes 5 minutes to Puerto station. You can also walk the flat route along Avenida Errázuriz in about 25–30 minutes, but it is a busy road and not the nicest part of town. The classic day is the UNESCO-listed Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre: ride a funicular (ascensor) up from the flat 'Plan', wander the painted lanes, murals and viewpoints, and have lunch with a view. Add Pablo Neruda's house La Sebastiana on Cerro Bellavista, or take the train 15 minutes to Viña del Mar for gardens, beaches and the Fonck Museum's moai. With a full day, Casablanca Valley wineries or the Concón dunes are an easy half-day by car. Santiago is 120 km away (about 1 h 45 min each way) and only makes sense on a long call or a turnaround day.
