Port summary
Lyngdal sits at the head of the Rosfjord on Norway's southern coast, between Farsund and Lindesnes. Cruise calls are few (Phoenix Reisen has been the regular visitor, with MSC and others calling occasionally) and ships normally anchor in the fjord and tender passengers ashore. The tender landing is at Rosfjord, right beside the sandy Rosfjordsanden beach and the Rosfjord Strandhotell, where staffed tourist information and local guides meet ships. A shuttle bus runs to the town centre (Alleen), but many passengers simply walk the 2 km along the fjord. The town itself is small: a pedestrian high street, shops, a bakery or two and the big white wooden Lyngdal Church of 1848. The real draws are nearby: the white wooden houses of Farsund, the flat, windswept Lista peninsula with Lista Lighthouse and the Nordberg wartime fort, the salmon ladder at Kvåsfossen up the Lygna valley, and Lindesnes, the southernmost tip of mainland Norway with its famous lighthouse. Local buses reach Farsund and Vigeland but not the lighthouses, so for those you need a taxi, a hire car or the ship's tour. Taxis are few and must be pre-booked on a ship day. Weather changes fast; bring a rain jacket even in July.
