Jigoku Mushi Kobo is a unique culinary experience in the heart of the Kannawa onsen district, where visitors cook their own food using natural geothermal steam. You rent a steam chamber (starting at ¥400 for 15 minutes), choose your ingredients — from seafood and meat sets to vegetables and the famous onsen tamago (soft-boiled eggs) — and place them in bamboo baskets over the 100°C steam vents. The result is a clean, delicate flavour with no oil or seasoning needed. It is an especially fun activity for families and groups. You can bring your own ingredients or buy sets on site. Combine this with the nearby Jigoku Meguri hell tour for a full Kannawa half-day.
