Port summary
Rosyth sits on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, a few kilometres upstream of the three Forth bridges. Ships berth alongside at the Rosyth Cruise Terminal inside the Forth Ports dockyard, next to the naval base, and passengers step from the gangway into a small terminal building with seating, toilets and a café. Fred. Olsen and other lines use it for turnarounds; larger ships call here in transit because they can berth rather than tender. The dockyard is an industrial and security site, so walking out of the port is not allowed. Leave by the cruise-line shuttle (usually to Inverkeithing station or Edinburgh), by taxi from the rank outside the terminal, or on a ship's tour. Inverkeithing station is about 10 minutes by taxi (around £10–12 per car). From there ScotRail trains cross the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh Waverley every 10–15 minutes in about 25 minutes, and an off-peak day return costs about £7.40. Edinburgh is the obvious full-day goal: the castle, the Royal Mile, St Giles' Cathedral and the free National Museum of Scotland are all within a 15-minute walk of Waverley station. Book castle tickets online for a timed slot. If you want something closer and quieter, Dunfermline is 15 minutes by taxi, with its Romanesque abbey (the burial place of Robert the Bruce), Pittencrieff Park and the free Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum. North Queensferry, right under the Forth Bridge, is 10 minutes away for bridge views and a lunch, and the trains also reach Aberdour's castle and Silver Sands beach in a few minutes. Allow for the transfer at both ends: with the taxi, a wait for the train and the walk, you need about an hour each way to central Edinburgh. Aim to be back at Inverkeithing at least 90 minutes before all-aboard, because taxi queues there can build when a big ship is in.

Some ships berth further along at the North Wall and a free bus links the ship to the terminal. Walking out of the dockyard is not allowed, so passengers leave by shuttle, taxi or tour coach.
