🕐 Best time to visit
April to September open daily; in winter it's closed on Thursdays and Fridays.
Aberdour Castle grew from a 12th-century hall house into a Renaissance residence for the Douglas Earls of Morton. Wander the ruined tower, the painted ceiling in the east range and the terraced walled garden, then look into the beehive-shaped doocot and the Norman St Fillan's Church next door. The station is right by the gate, so it's an easy add-on to a beach walk at Silver Sands.
Getting there from the port
Taxi or shuttle to Inverkeithing, then a 7-minute train to Aberdour. The castle is next to the station.
