🕐 Best time to visit
Late morning when the painted ceilings catch the light.
Dendera was built between the 4th century BC and the 2nd century AD on a much older Hathor sanctuary. Its hypostyle hall keeps painted ceilings and intact columns rare elsewhere; the famous zodiac on the roof is a copy (the original is in the Louvre). Far quieter than Luxor — typical visit is 30-50 people instead of thousands.
Getting there from the port
Coach excursion in convoy from Safaga; can be done as a half-day or combined with Luxor on overnight calls.
