Clear morning for the mountain views and temple approach
Mount Daisen, a 1,729-metre volcano the locals call the Hoki Fuji, is the highest peak in the Chugoku region and has been a centre of mountain worship for over a thousand years. The atmospheric Daisenji temple and the Ogamiyama shrine sit among ancient beech forest on its flanks, with a stone-paved pilgrim path and, on a clear day, sweeping views back over Yumigahama and the sea.
