Morning before tour groups arrive.

Aoshima Shrine sits at the heart of the tiny island, reached by crossing the bridge and walking through a tunnel of subtropical foliage. The shrine is dedicated to Yamasachihiko, a figure from Japanese mythology, and is particularly popular for en-musubi — prayers for romantic connections and good relationships. Colourful talismans and ema boards covered in wishes add splashes of colour against the green jungle backdrop. The inner precinct has a cave-like pathway draped in hanging vines. The shrine grounds are compact and can be explored in 20–30 minutes, making it an easy add-on when visiting the Devil's Washboard formations that surround the island.
