Obi Castle Town Walk

The Obi Castle Town walk takes you through one of Kyushu's best-preserved samurai quarters, where whitewashed earthen walls and stone-lined water channels create a quiet, timeless atmosphere. The route passes through the reconstructed Otemon main gate, past the Matsuo-no-Maru lord's residence, and along streets of Meiji-era merchant houses. Several small museums are included in a combo ticket, but the walk itself — through moss-covered lanes and beneath towering camphor trees — is the main attraction. In spring, cherry blossoms frame the castle ruins; in autumn, the ginkgo trees turn gold. The pace is unhurried, and English signage is limited but the layout is straightforward.
