Yukemuri Observatory

The Yukemuri Observatory is a free hilltop viewpoint above the Kannawa onsen district, offering one of Beppu's most distinctive panoramas: dozens of steam plumes rising from hot springs, bathhouses and vents across the district below. The view was selected as one of the 21 most scenic spots in Oita prefecture and is particularly atmospheric at dawn when the morning air sharpens the contrast between the white steam and the dark rooftops. The observatory is a 10-minute uphill walk from the Kannawa bus terminal and combines naturally with a Jigoku Meguri hell tour or a visit to Hyotan Onsen.
