Megane Bridge (Meganebashi) is Japan's oldest stone arch bridge, built in 1634 by the Chinese monk Mokusu of Kofukuji Temple. Its two arches reflect in the Nakashima River to create the appearance of spectacles — hence the name. The bridge is one of several stone bridges lining the river and is best photographed from the downstream bank when the water is calm. The surrounding riverside walk passes dozens of other historic bridges and makes a pleasant 20-minute stroll through old Nagasaki.
