Antiparos, the small island just west of Paros, is a relaxed alternative with a pretty little town, good beaches and a famous cave: a cathedral-like chamber of stalactites reached by a long stairway down the hillside. You can cross by small boat from Parikia in season or by bus to Pounta and the 10-minute car ferry. It is a rewarding half-day, but a tender port makes the timing tight - keep a close eye on the last boat and the last tender.
