🕐 Best time to visit
Late morning; best June to August when the moths gather
Petaloudes, the 'Valley of the Butterflies', is a walled, spring-fed garden of trees and streams a few kilometres south of Parikia where, from about June to August, thousands of Jersey tiger moths cluster on the trunks and take flight in orange clouds. Outside those months it is simply a green, shady walk. Entry is a few euros; go by taxi, rental or the seasonal bus, and keep noise down so as not to disturb the moths.
Getting there from the port
Taxi or rental from Parikia (~5 km); a seasonal bus also runs.
