🕐 Best time to visit
Start early in the morning, as soon as you land
The trail to Selkirk's lookout leaves from the top of the village and climbs steadily on a rough path, through open slopes and then native forest of tree ferns and endemic plants, to a saddle around 565 metres high. Plaques at the top honour Alexander Selkirk, marooned here from 1704 to 1709. Allow 1.5–2 hours up and 1–1.5 hours down, wear proper shoes and carry water and a rain jacket. Pay the park fee and register at the CONAF office before you go, and turn back in good time for the last tender.
Getting there from the port
Walk up through the village to the start of the signposted trail; pay the park fee and register with CONAF first.
