Yokohama Chinatown has thrived since the 1860s, filling a compact grid of colourful streets with dumpling houses, dim sum parlours, herbal shops and souvenir stalls. Ten ornate gates mark the entrances. Kanteibyou Temple sits at the centre, dedicated to Guan Yu, the Chinese god of commerce. The food is the real draw: grab steamed pork buns, freshly fried xiaolongbao or a mango pudding as you wander. For a sit-down meal, dozens of Cantonese, Sichuan and Shanghai restaurants line the main streets. Arrive hungry and allow at least an hour.
Getting there from the port
5-minute walk south from Osanbashi Pier through Yamashita Park. Minatomirai Line to Motomachi-Chukagai Station (exit 1).
