Yokohama has three cruise terminals. Osanbashi Pier is the most central, located in the heart of the waterfront with direct walking access to Chinatown, Yamashita Park, and the Minato Mirai district. Shinko Pier (Hammerhead) sits in the Minato Mirai area and is also walkable. Daikoku Pier handles the largest mega-ships but is located roughly 15 km from the city center, requiring a shuttle bus provided by the cruise line or port authority. Terminal assignment depends on your ship's size, so confirm your berth before planning your day. JR Yokohama Station connects to Tokyo (25-30 min), Kamakura (25 min), and the wider Kanto region. IC cards (Suica or Pasmo) work on all trains, buses, and at many shops. English signage is good at stations and major attractions. The city is safe, clean, and very walkable from the central terminals.

The original and most central cruise berth, located in Naka-ku within walking distance of Chinatown, Yamashita Park, and the Minato Mirai Line. Handles most mid-size cruise ships.

Opened in 2019, located in Minato Mirai adjacent to the Intercontinental Yokohama Pier8 hotel and Hammerhead Park. Walking distance to Cup Noodles Museum and Red Brick Warehouse. Used by many major cruise lines.

Opened in 2019 to accommodate mega cruise ships that cannot pass under Yokohama Bay Bridge (55 m clearance). Located in Tsurumi-ku, approximately 15 km north of the city center. Shuttle bus or taxi required to reach attractions.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Walking works from Osanbashi Pier (10 min to Chinatown, 15 min to Red Brick Warehouse) and from Shinko Pier (10 min to Minato Mirai). Not viable from Daikoku Pier, which is industrial and 8 km from the city centre. Pavements are well-maintained and mostly flat. Follow the harbourside promenade for a scenic route.
📍 Exit the cruise terminal and follow signs toward Yamashita Park (Osanbashi) or Minato Mirai (Shinko). No shuttle needed from these central piers.
Taxis queue at all three cruise terminals. Most accept credit cards and IC cards (Suica/Pasmo). Metered fares: JPY 1000-3000 from Osanbashi or Shinko to city attractions. From Daikoku Pier expect JPY 3000-5000 to the city centre due to distance. Tipping is not customary. Drivers rarely speak English but destination cards or a phone screen with the address work well.
📍 Taxi rank directly outside the cruise terminal exit. At Daikoku, taxis may need to be called — ask terminal staff.
The Akaikutsu sightseeing loop bus stops at Osanbashi Pier and circuits past the Red Brick Warehouse, Minato Mirai and Chinatown. Fare JPY 220 per ride, IC card accepted. Runs every 20-30 minutes on a fixed route. City buses also serve the Shinko area with stops near Pacifico Yokohama. Daikoku Pier has no direct bus service to the city — use taxi or shuttle if provided.
📍 Akaikutsu bus stop is at the foot of Osanbashi Pier, clearly signed. City bus stops are on the main roads near Shinko and Minato Mirai.
The Minatomirai Line connects the port area to Tokyo. Nihon-Odori Station is 6 minutes' walk from Osanbashi Pier. Bashamichi and Minatomirai stations are 8-10 minutes from Shinko. Through-service on the Tokyu Toyoko Line reaches Shibuya in 30 minutes without changing. IC cards (Suica/Pasmo) work on all lines. Buy at any station vending machine if you don't have one. Daikoku Pier has no nearby metro station.
📍 Nihon-Odori Station: walk south from Osanbashi, 6 minutes. Bashamichi Station: walk west from Shinko, 8 minutes. Minatomirai Station: inside Landmark Plaza. All stations are well-signed in English.
